
Advanced Race Management Seminar
February 18 & 19, 2012
Edgewater Yacht ClubThis seminar is sponsored by US Sailing and hosted by Edgewater Yacht Club. This seminar is for experienced race officers who would like to refresh and increase their knowledge of such topics as: organizing an event, writing the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions, RC equipment, race committee preparations, setting the starting line, setting the course, starting, finishing and scoring. The seminar will include discussions of the changes in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012 that affect race management.
People interested in becoming certified by US Sailing as Regional or National Race Officers must attend such a seminar and pass the associated test(s). Details of the other requirements for certification are available on US SAILING's web site at:

The principal instructor for the seminar is Hank Stuart. Hank is a U.S. Sailing National Race Officer, ISAF International Race Officer and the US SAILING Race Administration Committee Chairman. Steve Harris will be assisting. Steve is a Regional Race Officer, Member of the US SAILING Race Officer Training & Certification Subcommittee. Also assisting is Mike Dills, Certified Race Officer for twelve years, and currently the chief race officer at Edgewater Yacht Club.
The base seminar fee is $90.00 for current US Sailing members and for non-members the base registration fee plus $45.00. The fee includes the seminar materials, continental breakfast, lunch and two breaks each day.
Advance registration is essential. The deadline for advance registration is February 15th.
Each participant will receive study materials in advance of the seminar.
Non-members who register for this seminar, can take advantage of a discounted Special Introductory Membership, which includes a US Sailing one year adult membership. With a new membership the extra fourty-five dollar registration fee is waived.
Check-in and continental breakfast will be at 0800 on Saturday. On Saturday, the seminar will conclude at 1700. On Sunday, continental breakfast will begin at 0800; the seminar will begin at 0830, and will conclude by 1700.
At the seminar you will need your own copy of The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012 and the US Sailing Race Management Handbook. The Race Management Handbook can be purchased in the US Sailing online store: http://bit.ly/vS76I1
